Maddy is a keen advocate of Talk for Writing and is passionate about its impact on children’s reading and writing.

She has played a key role in the continuous development of Talk for Writing at Penn Wood Primary School in Slough. Penn Wood serves a socially and economically deprived community and through the successful implementation of Talk for Writing, the school has raised standards in all subject areas with stories at the heart of everything we do.

Through involvement in Talk for Writing research projects with Pie, Maddy has explored the use of TfW techniques in curriculum areas beyond English, as well as developing progression within Shared Writing in Key Stage 2.

Maddy has presented for large audiences and can provide bespoke INSET & training. Training can be provided at Penn Wood so that delegates can see Talk for Writing in action or in other school contexts.

Quotes from delegates who have attended her training:

“Maddy’s explanations were really clear which supported the well-structured and informative day. I am excited to get back into school and try out some of the strategies with my class”. Teacher.

“Really engaging, useful and well-explained. Lovely to see what Talk for Writing looks like in classrooms and to see how everything looks in action. The day was given with lots of enthusiasm and anecdotes.” Teacher

“An excellent training day. It was pitched perfectly and we all went away enthused and with a full complement of ideas, strategies and clear examples of good practice. I look forward to seeing my staff using the ideas shared.” Headteacher

“It is always an absolute pleasure to be able to bring colleagues to Penn Wood School. The open days are impeccably organised and offer participants an extremely rich and inspiring day. Everything is extremely well organised and every minute is filled with learning – be that from classroom visits, speaking to children or excellent presentations from staff. This is one day where I always learn and always leave with fresh enthusiasm and excitement for the Talk for Writing process. I am also, always in awe of the incredible work that goes on at Penn Wood and the life chances afforded to the children through their passionate and engaging teaching.” Talk for Writing Trainer and Project Leader
