Britannia Primary School, Ipswich, Suffolk

Britannia Primary School and Nursery is a three-form entry school in Ipswich, Suffolk. Our school was judged as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2023.

We adopted the TfW approach in 2018 after realising that our school needed a more consistent approach in writing lessons in order to enhance the children’s speaking capabilities. After improving their spoken language, the children’s confidence in writing heightened and our writing results soared.

TfW has totally transformed our teaching of writing. It has ensured that the children can clearly see their progress and are incredibly proud of their writing. As TfW has a key focus on talk, vocabulary, and speaking in full and varied sentences, it has had a positive impact across the curriculum.

If you are considering Talk for writing or wondering how to develop TfW further in your school, come along to one of our organised Open Mornings where you’ll be able to see TfW embedded from Nursery right through to Year 6. You will have the opportunity to see TfW being showcased in classrooms, talk to staff and children, see outcomes and clear journeys in books and ask as many questions as you like!

Training offered

Visits will include the following:
• Demonstrating teaching and learning through TfW in the classroom with staff and children.
• We will discuss our TfW journey so far and share our TfW overview.
• The chance to look in books and talk to children
• Opportunity for questions and advice.
