Talk for Writing Primary Expert Kaye

Kaye has worked closely with Pie over many years on a number of projects, including the original Primary National Strategy ‘Talk for Writing’ pilot, the Department for Education’s ‘Teachers and Teaching Assistants as Writers’ and ‘Transforming Writing’ with the National Literacy Trust.

Kaye led the development of literacy at Trevithick Learning Academy from 2007, propelling it to become the first Talk for Writing School in the country.  At Trevithick Kaye created a powerful and effective whole school approach using Talk for Writing which had a dramatic impact on accelerating pupil progress and improving standards, but most importantly it has released creativity and improved confidence in writers from nursery to Year 6.   Trevithick is located in an area of significant deprivation, however during Kaye’s leadership 100% of children achieved L4 in reading and writing with 78% of children achieving L5 in reading and 55% in writing at the end of KS2. This resulted in Trevithick being ranked within the top 3 highest attaining schools in the county and securing its position as an exemplary Talk for Writing training centre.

Kaye has the invaluable experience of recently leading a high performing school within a challenging area and successfully implementing the power and philosophy of Talk for Writing to enhance the life chances of the children there.

Kaye is a committed ambassador for Talk for Writing, she regularly presents at conferences for large audiences and has been involved in the development of a number of Talk for Writing inspired educational resources.  She provides bespoke INSET & training, workshops, staff development and support for schools with varying contexts.

Kaye implemented and embedded Talk for Writing across the curriculum in her school, so understands the importance of ongoing support and will mentor schools as they progress through their Talk for Writing journey.  Kaye’s strength lies in her knowledge of current practice and experience in leading and implementing Talk for Writing in a school where literacy is at the heart of children’s learning across the curriculum.

Kaye is now available to provide enthusiastic and informative training, teacher support and whole school consultancy to improve teaching and learning, raise standards and to help you develop your very own Talk for Writing School.

Enthusiastic, exciting and awe inspiring.  I feel privileged to attend, very knowledgeable trainer.  Great to see how Talk for Writing works, lots of opportunity to ask questions, great examples of successes and practicalities of a school approach.

An inspiring well-structured and organised course. This training day just blew me away.  I came out with my head buzzing then bombarded my head with sticky notes and requests.  One of the best training days I have been to in a long time.  Useful, pacey and real.  Thank you.
